Soft blackberry fruit mingles with spicy notes in this wine. Made by Hardys from carefully selected fruit, and given light exposure to oak, this is a deliciously smooth and warming version of Australia’s favourite classic red wine style. A versatile wine which would partner well with red meat based dishes. Exclusive to Waitrose.

Much of Australia’s wine is labelled as SE Australia but this is more a general geographical reference as opposed to the name of a specific winemaking region. South East encompasses all wine regions within South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania; in total it covers the entire South Eastern third of the country.

Using this classification allows winemakers to source grapes from more than one region to blend to a particular style without contravening the EU law which states all wine labels must contain the name of an officially recognised area of origin.

Chardonnay, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are the most likely grapes to be found in a South East Australian white wine blend and Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon in a South East Australian red wine blend.
